A clear plan keeps the passenger calm and gets them out quickly \u2014 and protects you from liability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The first five minutes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Talk to the passenger through the car phone or door. Reassure them that help is coming.<\/li>\n\n<li>Ask how many people are inside and whether anyone has a medical condition.<\/li>\n\n<li>Call your elevator contractor&#8217;s 24\/7 line and give the building address and car number.<\/li>\n\n<li>If anyone is unwell, call 911 as well.<\/li>\n\n<li>Never try to open the doors or move the car yourself.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the rescue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask the mechanic for a written explanation of the cause.
